Beautifully and poignantly written, as always. I love X-Files. One of my favorite childhood shows. I had so many dreams about it too. I must rewatch it.
Great article! The X-Files is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, but if I could change just one thing about it, I'd say it needed more episodes where Scully was the one who is right all along. Her skepticism sometimes felt like a crutch, like she's a housewife negging on Mulder who always has the right theory. That always bothered me. We simply needed more episodes where Mulder was full of shit and Scully was the one who discovered the truth using her own knowledge and personal beliefs. Not that there weren't episodes like that, but there really weren't many of them.
“Individuals can feel disconnected when their beliefs or perspectives diverge from societal norms.” This is very true, and the experience can make one question their own sanity. Your point about human connection being a profound balm to loneliness is also a great one.
thank you. your focused discussion on this chaarcter and the loneliness draw me to a series I somehow didn't see, but heard lots about. I somehow needed to circle it.... It will be "time" this upcoming winter.

Many thanks sweetheart! It’s so so good, rewatching now and listening to the above podcast and pretending it’s 1993 🛸

I've been thinking about rewatching too! Such an important part of my teenage years.
