Timely for me, LRB resonates with my reading, thinking about emotions as the essence of what human beings are. Thank you for delving into Rust and Blue and more!
I had introduced two friends at a lunch (one friend and I had just been to LACMA the day before to see the Rothko there), and both friends LOVED Rothko. (I like him, too, but I'm more of a Kandinsky/Basquiat kind of gal.) What I thought was interesting was one said, "His paintings just...breathe," and the other one said, "I was just going to say that. They do breathe." And, in that moment, they bonded. Thanks for sparking that memory, Matt. xo

Love his work and hadn’t thought of it in this way. Thank you, Matt!
I loved this. I've been a fan of Rothko since I was a teenager. Thank you sharing.
