"The quality of light in St Ives, which shifts dramatically with the tides and weather, has become legendary in artistic circles, bathing the landscape in an ethereal glow that artists have sought to capture on canvas."

Delightful, and well captured by the photos/artwork and your words.

A lovely spot, Cornwall.

I’ve friends around the place there, and there’s the North Cornwall Book Festival which I love, though I don’t know if I’ll get there this year. I used to spend every Easter in Polzeath... But mostly it’s Hepworth & my need to see her that draws me in, so in answer, a vague on and off. Have you been to the Hepworth in Wakefield?

Thank you for this. I’m not certain how I feel about abstract art as I rather prefer natural scenes which show the interplay of light on water, light on light, light on shadow. It’s why I appreciate well done black and white cinematography. But your essay helps me appreciate and understand. This is a good thing.

The novel’The Shell Seekers’ was my introduction to the Cornwall coast--such a wonderful sense of place and time--and a book I’ve read and re-read.

Your wonderful essay is appreciated.

Been nearly two decades since I’ve been to Cornwall but your piece brought me back there. It’s an exceptional town.

Also, loved how you transitioned into a Heron deep dive. Wonderful stuff!

Piazza flats on Porthmeor were our favoured summer destination when my kids were wee. Still try to get down every few years. Been a resurgence of interest in Wilhelmina Barns-Graham here in Scotland in recent years. I think she stayed in Barnaloft?

This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing a piece of Cornwall through your eyes. It’s one thing to Google and read about a place via a website or wikipedia, and a completely different thing to have a first-person p.o.v. Well done, sweet friend💞
