Writing as a Means to Ward off Loneliness.
Couldn’t agree more. What looks so individual can actually be part of the wider human connection --
“Writing fosters connections by enabling the sharing of experiences and stories. When we write about our personal experiences, whether through journaling, memoirs, or creative writing, we create narratives that others can relate to.”
All of this. 💯 What I enjoy so much about Substack is that it helps us all foster a sense of community centered around our writing, which combats loneliness and increases connection.
I used to maintain a blog on my own website, but prefer writing here for all the reasons you outlined in this (awesome) piece!
Loneliness is odd, you can be surrounded by acquaintances or strangers and still feel completely alone. It’s when we feel heard and appreciated- that’s the cure! Thank you for this, it’s hard to remember that I feel less alone when I am brave enough to be loud. It helps that the quality of writing and community connection is strong here on Substack. Makes it a little less scary to share my real self. Good writing here!
A wonderful coincidence that you and I both published a piece on the process of writing at exactly the same time!
As someone who writes personal essays on psychosocial issues, I relate to much of what you have unpacked here. “When we write about our personal experiences, whether through journaling, memoirs, or creative writing, we create narratives that others can relate to.”
You offer great reassurance to those of us who choose to bare our soul in our writing. Thank you!
Yes, writing is one of the greatest ways to explore and heal loneliness <3
This is so good and so true! Great writing, sweet friend💞
I agree with this so much! Being lonely is odd, especially when you aren’t alone. You’re very appreciated by me for sure. Substack is such a great place to meet people who are amazing writers and human beings. Thank you so much for your support wonderful you xx
