Wonderful essay! I’ve never heard of this artist, but the images you added in reminds me of Humans of New York/Amsterdam/Bombay, but without an explanation by the photographed subjects. Fantastically written my sweet friend😄
Maier is definitely on my list of artists to study in regards to mental health. A quick glance online suggests trauma, schizoid disorder, paranoia, hoarding ... And loneliness itself can, of course, be a symptom of a condition as well as a condition itself. But I don't know a lot about her so this gives me a great start and inspiration for much deeper research.
I followed this case back when it first surfaced in 2007/2008. Was enthralled by the photos, street photography being my favourite, although I don’t do it as much these days as I would like to. I can recommend the film as well. I doubt she would care for all the attention, the photos were for her and her alone.
Never apologise for your work. I had known only vaguely of Vivian Maier. Now, your piece confers almost art world immortality.
Wow, I've never heard of her, but those are some incredible shots.
She’s an amazing photographer for sure!

Thank you kindly lovely. 💕
Wonderful, thank you. Her self-portraits are all so captivating. And her photo of the man on horseback?! I need a large print of that asap. 🙏
You’re so so welcome. I love her self portraits so much, and the man on horse back is my absolute favourite. Thank you for reading x

Glad my essay has been a source of inspiration. There are some really good books about her, this fictional biography is one I’d recommend

Thanks for reminding us of her! Yet to appreciate one more time❤️
You’re welcome ☺️
This is a wonderful piece, thank you.
Oh yes! Vivian! One of my favs.
This is such a great post - she's one of my favourite photographers so I'm always delighted when other people share her story and her work. ✨
aww thank you lovely 🥰

Hadn't heard of her, so thanks once again LRT.
Amazing photos.
How do you decide who to feature in your posts? Do you have a long list of subjects/films/music etc planned ahead, or is it more week-by-week?
Keep it up, hope that laptop coffer is filling up with coins 😄
You’re very welcome.
Basically I have a long list, that’s keeps getting longer, and I just pick something I feel like writing about at the time. Usually that works for me.
Thank you, yes slowly but yes haha 👌🏽
Great essay; she was a fascinating human and I’m so glad that her photography has lived on to see the light of day.
Thank you very much, you’re too kind. Me too, just think what would of been lost if her work had not been discovered!
